In-home care in Bountiful, Utah. Companion care, personal care, respite and 24-hour support. Free consultation, no obligation.
Perrigrine Sessions started the settlement that became Bountiful on September 27, 1847, making it the second permanent settlement in Utah. Almost two centuries of building later, the result is the oldest housing stock and the oldest population on this site. Nearly 15 percent of Bountiful's roughly 45,000 residents are 65 or older, and 3,094 are past 75, about as many people over 75 as Provo has in a city with a third fewer residents.
The town climbs. Downtown sits at the base of the Wasatch at 4,771 feet, the residential east side runs up the slope, and the land falls away west toward the Great Salt Lake. Care 801 works up and down that hill: companion care, personal care, respite, memory support, live-in and around-the-clock coverage, and post-hospital help. 801-515-5453.
Calls from Bountiful cluster by season. Winter brings the ones about the driveway, the walk out to the mailbox, and a husband who still insists on shoveling at 82. Warmer months bring the orthopedic ones, because Lakeview does a great deal of hip and knee replacement and somebody has to be in the house for the six weeks afterward. Between those, the steadiest reason we hear is exhaustion. An aging spouse has been the sole caregiver for two years and has quietly stopped seeing anyone. Bountiful has the highest share of residents over 75 of the cities we cover.
Sixty-three percent of Bountiful's homes were built before 1980 and 45 percent before 1970, with roughly 1,280 units dating to 1949 or earlier. That is the oldest profile of these four cities by a wide margin, which means a great many houses here went up before accessibility was a design consideration at all. What a caregiver notices walking in for the first time is usually the bathroom, then the hallway, then the basement laundry. On the east bench you add the approach: a sloped driveway, a run of steps up from the street, and a north-facing walk that holds ice well into spring. About seven in ten homes here are detached and owner-occupied.
Bountiful does not have its own FrontRunner stop. The closest is Woods Cross Station at 750 South 800 West in Woods Cross, a 13.5-acre site set into a residential neighborhood, with Bountiful's commercial areas across I-15 to the east. UTA's Davis County listings include route 455, running between the University of Utah and Weber State, and route 473 along Highway 89. None of it is walkable from an east-bench address, and the grade alone rules it out. The practical options are Rides4Health at 801-525-5061 for medical trips, UTA Paratransit at 801-287-7433, and a caregiver with a car.
The South Davis Senior Activity Center is at 726 South 100 East, phone 801-451-3660, operated by Davis County Senior Services for active adults 60 and over. It runs congregate lunch, physical activity and exercise classes, educational sessions and social programming on a monthly calendar, and lunch priced by donation, $3 suggested at 60 and over, $6 below that. Home-delivered meals come through the county at 801-525-5050, extension 2, midday Monday through Friday, with weekend meals sent out Thursday and Friday for those who qualify. The center covers the middle of the day and the social side of things. In-home care covers the mornings, the evenings, the weekends and the bathroom.
Lakeview Hospital at 630 East Medical Drive is a 128-bed MountainStar facility with a 24/7 emergency department and trauma center, cardiac rehabilitation, physical therapy, stroke care, wound care, and a large orthopedic program covering hip, knee and shoulder replacement. Bountiful also holds three of Davis County's six skilled nursing facilities: Monument Healthcare Bountiful at 460 West 2600 South, Monument Healthcare Stonecreek at 523 North Main Street, and South Davis Specialty Care at 481 South 400 East. That is 317 of the county's 555 certified beds inside one city. The chain from hospital to rehab to home can happen within a few miles here, and the last link is ours.
The house itself is the biggest variable in Bountiful. An older home with a narrow bathroom and a basement laundry takes longer for the same tasks, and an east-bench address adds winter mornings when the approach has to be cleared before anyone comes or goes. Orthopedic recovery drives a predictable spike: heavy hours for a few weeks after a joint replacement, then a real drop. Hours come down fastest when a spouse is still capable, but watch that closely, because a caregiving spouse in their eighties tends to hide how much they are struggling.
| Type of support | Typical rate | Commonly used for |
|---|---|---|
| Hourly visits (3-4 hrs) | $32 - $38 / hr | A few mornings a week, meals, errands, companionship |
| Longer shifts (8+ hrs) | $30 - $34 / hr | Daytime cover while family are at work |
| Awake overnight | $34 - $40 / hr | Someone who should not be alone at night |
| Live-in | $380 - $480 / day | Continuous presence where the caregiver sleeps in the home |
| Respite block | Hourly rate applies | A week or two while a family caregiver takes a break |
These are typical ranges, not a quote. The consultation gives you real numbers for your actual schedule, and there is no fee to be matched with a provider.
Because Bountiful skews older than anywhere else we work, we see more long-term care insurance policies here, often bought in the late 1980s or 1990s and then filed away and forgotten. If one exists, find it before you decide anything else. Terms vary, but many policies have a waiting period you pay through out of pocket, and most require documented evidence of need from the very first day of care, which is why starting service before you open the claim can quietly cost you weeks of benefit. Your Area Agency on Aging is Davis County Senior Services, reachable at 801-525-5050, and their case managers can walk you through Medicaid waivers and the county's Alternatives in-home program if no policy exists or it falls short.
Whoever you end up working with, these are the questions that separate a provider who will still be reliable in six months from one who will not.

Learn more →That is a scheduling question we take seriously here. We plan winter coverage around the approach, not just the address, which can mean earlier arrivals, longer shifts that avoid a second trip up the hill, or overnight coverage through a storm cycle. The day she comes home, and ask the discharge planner for that date as early as you can get it. The first few days home are when things go wrong: medications nobody has managed before, a body weaker than the family expected, and a bathroom that was manageable before surgery and is not now.
He will say that. Bountiful has the highest share of residents over 75 of the cities we serve, and spousal caregivers in that group are the ones who end up in the emergency room themselves. Start small. Four hours a week, the same day, the same caregiver, so he can keep his own appointments.
